ESL Site of the Month – Grammaropolis

An EnglishClub Site of the Month (June 2010)

Grammaropolis is a colourful site where kids can learn the parts of speech without a textbook. The parts of speech are personified with cute characters that are appealing to young learners. For example, the Preposition is a little green character whose profile says “Yes I’m small, but that doesn’t mean I can’t locate an object in space and time.” The site contains explanations, quizzes, books, games, and even a catchy song! Grammaropolis also has a blog where teachers can learn more about using the site from the mayor. “We can tell kids until we’re blue in the face that an adverb modifies an adjective, but it might take actually seeing that concept in action for a young grammar learner to fully grasp it.”
