Approximately 1,000 people have died in a region of northern India over the past week due to flash floods caused by early monsoon rains. Homes and roads were washed away, and communication was . The high terrain has made it difficult to reach the survivors, though 80,000 people were evacuated. Drones and makeshift bridges were used to locate and rescue some of the survivors in remote areas. Rescue efforts by the Indian air force had to be scaled back over the weekend due to dense fog and heavy rain.
