Subsidized Food Plan Proposed In India
A new bill aimed at reducing hunger in India will be reviewed by India’s government this week. The Food Security Bill proposes that food is a legal right of the people. If passed, approximately 800,000,000 people in India will have access to cheap food. Under the program, the government would subsidize five kilograms of grain each month for two-thirds of the population in India. Grains would include rice, wheat and millet. The cost of the program would be approximately 1.3 trillion rupees ($23 billion).
