YouTube Holds Inaugural Music Awards

The first annual YouTube Music Awards were held in on November 3rd. The 90-minute awards show was broadcast in a live webcast on YouTube. Most of the show was unscripted. Creative Spike Jonze wanted the show to be spontaneous and unpredictable like the site itself. Nominees were based on , subscriptions and online engagement. The audience played a key role in the live performances during the show. Awards included the phenomenon Award, the innovation award, the breakthrough award and the of the year award. A recent survey in the US found that more young people listen to music on YouTube than on the radio.
