Writing Prompt: In writing, use a capital letter when identifying a relative by name: When will Aunt Liz come back from her trip? Is Grandpa coming with her? Use a lowercase letter to refer to a relative in general: My aunt is home from her trip. My grandpa came with her. Review this Family Vocabulary. Then write a paragraph introducing some of the people in your immediate and extended family.

Example

I have a big family. In my immediate family I have a mother, a father and two siblings. My older brother is Maxwell and my younger sister is Tracey. I am the middle child. Maxwell has a wife and two daughters. My sister-in-law’s name is Louise. My nieces are Ella and Mia. They are twins. I love being an aunt, and I hope to have a nephew one day. Tracey doesn’t have any kids yet. I don’t have any kids either. My grandparents on my father’s side are getting old. Grandpa Jake is 90 and Grandma Ann is 85. My mother’s parents are no longer with us. My dad has four brothers. I love my uncles. My favourite uncle is Uncle Rick. Mom also has a big family. She has three sisters and two brothers. I have so many cousins that I can’t count them all!
